JusticE Clients
The Power In You Project offers Peer Mentors specialising in working with clients who have encountered the Criminal Justice System.
The New Directions Program, facilitated by our Senior Justice Peer recognises the unique needs of people leaving custody and in response, this program focuses on building relationships, trust and rapport with participants. The program was built with guidance from our Justice Co-ordinator, Forensic Psychologist and Justice Peer Workers.
By doing so, our New Directions Program brings a critical element that is unique to The Power In You Project. Our Senior Justice Peer brings the experience of being a past prisoner and an understanding of the challenges of navigating the world outside of correctional facilities. Further, the program is rooted in knowledge from a past Corrections Advanced Case Manager, as well as a Forensic Psychologist who both have a valuable understanding of the expectations and requirements of a Community Corrections Order and the psychological demands of the justice system.
The program is based around emotional foundations and aims to increase participant knowledge and understanding to build resilience, deal appropriately with abandonment, manage feelings of remorse, learn acceptance and to establish boundaries to allow for the development of healthy relationships and develop a sense of being valued in the community.
Through the course of the material offered in the New Directions program, participants will learn to let go of unhelpful and historical thinking patterns and to overcome their greatest challenge of never returning to prison.
